It’s Almost Here…

It’s Almost Here…

It’s Almost Here…

It’s the last day of 2019, before it slips into the annals of history to take its place amid the collective memories of past years. And 2020 will be upon us—ready or not! Our readiness matters little, as my mother loved saying: “Time and tide wait for no man (sic).” However, whatever one’s emotions may be—anxiety, fear, stress, trepidation, apprehension or hopelessness (thankful for the thesaurus here ☺)—the good, stabilising news is that the start of a new year often provides the opportunity for new beginnings. It affords a time to assess, to re-think, to change, stop or evaluate decisions made in the past and make changes as needed.

And to help in that assessment we have God’s promises, and that’s HUGE! Consider these verses: “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (James 1:5) Or this: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2) Or even this: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My victorious right hand.” Wonderful promises aren’t they – to help us re-focus, lose our fears and face the New Year head-on, proclaiming “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear….” So be encouraged, Beloved; as the songwriter says: “For though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet!
